I don't and never did take the army that seriously, because I have a life and career waiting for me outside of it. But yet everyone enforces that if you are in the army you should make it your life. While I do like the anti-racism, religious tolerance, and generally safe work environment and how it promotes problem solving over petty emotional things you deal with in civilian jobs.. it's still limited in what it can allow you to personally accomplish for yourself. Nobody ever really cares about helping other people out, even though they are supposed to. Nobody follows the army values of respect, even though you're supposed to do that too. Basically the 7 years I've been in - nobody cares about helping somebody out unless you make it their problem. I've always had to go way over people's heads to the higher ups to get anything done at all even after going through all proper channels, it's been this way at every single unit I've been in. And now I'm at a place where I tried to go to the NCO board to get promoted for over 7 months, and finally gave up. Then they are short on personnel and finally want to send me to the board when I don't want to go. So..they don't care when it's my problem, only when it is theirs? And it is this attitude of not tolerating things that I don't think make sense or I personally find ridiculous and redundant in an organisation that is supposed to be about the beauty and perfection of efficiency and function, that have made me want to part ways. I enjoyed the army and it has helped me in ways no other job or organisation could in life. But it is now time for me to leave and nothing anybody says will convince me otherwise.
